Hello!

Hello and welcome to the communication blog!

This blog contains information and ideas on how we use different ways of communicating in school to support the children. This includes spoken words, Makaton signs and symbols and PECS (The Picture Exchange Communication System),

Here is a photo of a Lego model that two children in Puffins class worked together to build. They did this in a communication lesson based on an approach called ‘Lego Therapy’. This approach helps to support the children’s language skills (e.g. describing the Lego bricks and talking about how to put them together) and their social skills (taking turns to do key jobs during the Lego build, asking for help and clarification if needed, and working together to complete a joint goal).

If you would like any information or support on using Lego building or other communication approaches, please do contact the school via your child’s home / school book.
